KCSA Notes 10/4/2009

Welcome to another week of KCSA fun! Here's what you can look for in this issue:

1. Tours you can give
2. New way to find usher subs!
3. General Meeting
4. Taste of the Arts
5. Callboard update

1. Tours you can give
If you're trained as a tour guide, check your schedule to see if you can show off Krannert at one of these times this week and sign up if you can:
Wednesday, October 7: 3:00pm Daily Tour
Thursday, October 8: 3:30pm Special Tour
Friday, October 9: 1:30pm Special Tour
3:00pm Daily Tour
Wednesday, October 14: 3:00pm Daily Tour

2. New way to find usher subs!
Starting this semester, we are testing out a new way for all of you who usher to find subs. Instead of using the yahoo group, where you have to remember another pesky password and remember to check the thing consistently if you want to usher a specific show, here is what you can now do: If you need a substitute for a show, simply send an email to KCSA-USHERING-L@listserv.illinois.edu that states clearly the name and date of the show you want a sub for. Then, if you want to usher that show and are not already assigned it, email the person back and tell them you would love to take the show for them. Make sure to give them your contact info so that they can fill out the usher change request form on the website - that part will still be the same. Please do NOT email the listserv if you want to substitute for a particular show. Only email the listserv if you are looking for a sub. We will post a form email on the website soon that you can use, and just insert the name and date of the show, and we'll make sure to put it in an easy-to-find location. Hope this makes your lives easier, and email croloff2@illinois.edu if you have any questions/concerns.

3. General Meeting
The next general meeting, aka social event designed for you to hang out with your friends in KCSA and also make new ones, is coming up on Tuesday, October 13th from 6-8 pm, so mark your calendars now! The event is still to be determined, so if you have a brilliant idea or would like to help out with planning the event, contact croloff2@illinois.edu. Whatever it is that we end up doing, whether it be a board game night, a fun craft, or a philanthropy event, it is guaranteed to be a fun way to get involved and be around Krannert, so be sure to save the date!

4. Taste of the Arts
Greetings from the Community Outreach department. Since it is now officially October, that means that this year's Taste of the Arts (TOTA) is only a few weeks away. Mark your calendars for Saturday, Oct. 24! The event is scheduled to run from 12-4pm in the Krannert Lobby and there will be many awesome performances from a variety of student groups, an assortment of craft booths, food, dancing, and much more! Help spread the word to all your peers, friends, and family. If you're interested in helping out with the event, please contact Elaine at ejwu3@uiuc.edu or stop by her office hour on Mondays at noon in the KCSA office.

5. Callboard update
There is finally some new weekly content coming up on Callboard! A special feature on Krannert happenings, upcoming performances, facts and the return of the top ten things to do each weekend are just a few of the items you can read each week on Callboard. Also, KCSA is now on Twitter! Visit Callboard for the details on the username and how to follow us today!

AdBoard Applications Due Today 5pm (10/02/2009)

Don't forget to send in your application for Adboard today by 5 p.m. to croloff2@illinois.edu!

Applications can be found on our main website, about half way down the page. If you're having trouble finding the application, it is also below so you can copy and paste it.

Krannert Center Student Association
Administrative Board Application
Thank you for your interest in applying for a position on the Krannert Center Student Association’s Administrative Board! We hope that this information sheet will answer many of your questions. However if there is anything else you would like to know, please feel free to contact any of the Administrative Board members. Our contact information, as well as lots of other information, can be found on the KCSA website at http://www.kcsa.uiuc.edu.

Who The KCSA Administrative Board Is

The KCSA Administrative Board consists of people who plan events, organize committees, and lead the various activities for the Krannert Center Student Association. We have had members who are students ranging from freshmen to graduate students, from all majors including engineering, sciences, liberal arts, business, and fine arts. We all share the common vision of a love for the performing arts and a passion to bring the arts to the students of the University and the community members of Champaign-Urbana.

What You Will Get From Being An AdBoard Member

As an Administrative Board member you will have opportunities to improve and develop leadership skills, to gain experience working among a diverse group of people with differing view points, and to become more involved in one of the largest and most rewarding organizations on campus. You will be instrumental in broadening the experiences of the KCSA general members and you will learn skills that will help you for the rest of your life. You will meet many of the Krannert staff and will have the opportunity to work with them directly. Also, in appreciation of all the hard work that Administrative Board members put in, you will be entitled to complimentary tickets for life for shows at Krannert.

What Our Involvement Is

Administrative Board members are expected to hold one office hour each week, attend weekly or bi-weekly departmental meetings with the other Directors of the department, attend AdBoard meetings twice a month, usher a minimum of three shows each semester and give at least one tour, and to hold any necessary committee meetings. You will also be expected to participate in major KCSA events and to assist and support the other departments in accomplishing their goals. If you are concerned about what exactly is expected of you, please e-mail the directors of the department(s) to which you are applying and ask them about their responsibilities. The time commitment is considerable, but we are all students and we know that academics come first. Most Administrative Board members do not have a problem keeping up with schoolwork and KCSA obligations. In fact, we find it to be one of the most rewarding experiences of our college careers, and we love having the opportunities to participate in so much of what Krannert and KCSA do.
Application Procedures

The process consists of two steps: an application and an interview. The application will be filled out and returned to the KCSA President, and all applicants will be scheduled for an interview with the current KCSA Administrative Board.

What We Are Looking For
The only requirement to apply is that you must be a registered KCSA member. For more information on becoming a registered member and requirements for being a member, please visit our web site at http://www.kcsa.uiuc.edu. When you apply, we are also looking for certain qualities in potential Administrative Board members. These include, but are not limited to:
• Love of the performing arts and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts
• Strong motivation to do their very best
• Awareness and sensitivity when working with a diverse group of people
• Passion for learning and new experiences
• Conscientious, hard-working, and responsible
• Positive attitude and ability to work through difficult situations
We are aware that not everyone may already have leadership experience, especially freshmen. Please do not let this stop you from applying, as we will consider every applicant in terms of his or her capability. We expect you to learn a lot on the Administrative Board and to develop these skills for the future! You have just as good a chance of showing what you can do as anyone else.

The Application
The application is available in the KCSA Office or on-line at http://www.kcsa.uiuc.edu/. The application is due at 5PM of the due date by e-mail to the KCSA President (croloff2@illinois.edu). All applications must be typed, but you do not need to fill out a separate application for each position you hope to attain. You may run for as many positions as you would like to be considered for on KCSA’s Administrative Board, but can be elected to a maximum of one position.

The Interview (or, Don’t worry it isn’t that bad!)
We interview applicants to try to get to know them better and give them a chance to tell us about themselves. Interviews are conducted in order of department, so if you are applying for more than one position you may have multiple interviews. The whole interview will take about 10-15 minutes for an Administrative Board position. Executive Board position interviews are more open-ended and may last up to about 20 minutes. You will be notified about the results by phone either that evening or in the next two days. If you still have not been notified in three days, then e-mail the President (croloff2@uiuc.edu).

KCSA Tours Training!

Some important info for those not yet trained in tours:

Monday 5/4, Steve and Hanin will be training all FOH staff for tours The KCSA board for next year should also come to this training, which will be from 8 to 10 pm. All adboard members are required to be trained as tour guides, so if you are at all available, please come. It's much easier for our tours directors if they can train people en masse. Performance Cancellation: Ingrid Fliter
The Ingrid Fliter performance scheduled for Tuesday, February 3 at 7:30pm has been canceled due to an arm injury that prohibits Ms. Fliter from performing at this time. Full refunds are available to all ticket holders, who are being contacted by the Krannert Center Ticket Office. If you have any questions, please contact the Ticket Office at 217/333-6280. Performance Cancellations: Joshua Redman/Ramiro Musotto
The Joshua Redman performance scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at 7:30pm has been canceled. The post-performance Afterglow event featuring Ramiro Musotto has also been canceled.

KCSA Notes

Welcome Back to one and all!
The exec board of the Krannert Center Student Association is tickled pink that you've all come back for another great semester with us. We're happy to report that there are more opportunities to get involved in the arts and outreach than ever. The most important thing for you to know right now is that registration is open! Click here http://www.kcsa.uiuc.edu/registration/ to register! This is the place for us to gather information about what shows you would like to request for ushering, what departments you'd like to be a part of, and all things KCSA in general. Please remember that ALL members of KCSA must re-register EVERY semester, even if you have done so in the past. Once you register, you will officially be a KCSA member (woohoo!) and you will be on our listserv. That means you will get my lovely volunteer info-filled emails every Sunday night, like this! As always, don't hesitate to contact me with any questions about how to get involved, procedure, events, you name it. Now, sit back and take in the KCSA events:

Jeopardy/Game Night: January 27, 7pm, Krannert Room
General Meeting: January 28, 7pm, Festival Foyer
Tours Info
Ushering Info
Callboard info

**********************
What better way to take a break from your first full week of classes *cringe* than with a fun game night? KCSA will be having board games galore, but best of all a KCSA Jeopardy game! It's a great way to learn more about KCSA (or impress all your friends with your ushering/tour guide knowledge) and earn a little candy. The event will take place in the Krannert Room, which is office the Krannert Center lobby. Just look for friendly faces in the lobby to direct you. Hope to see you there!
***********************

General Meeting!
KCSA's big ole general meeting will be taking place on Wednesday, January 28 at 7pm in the Festival Foyer. Again, just look for people in the lobby to direct you. KCSA adboard members will be available to answer questions about their departments and the kinds of volunteering you can do. Don't be afraid to grill us with your inquiries, we love new members! Also a mass usher training for new ushers will occur directly after the meeting! You must be trained before you can usher a show, so if you're new, try your best to make this one!
